And kinda finished

And this is what it looks like. Head and torso still need to be glued on. I don't know about the pose yet. The cables on the arms need some work. And he needs Belials banner. Other then that he's done I say! I even put him on coolminiornot. Be gentle with the poor guy k?

Painting Belial

It has been a bit quiet, I have been slowly painting things on and off after recovering the parts from the bad spraycoat. I got them white again (this time with GW spray).

I started with the torso and the legs as seen in the previous post. Fuzzy pic is fuzzy:

Nothing major here, just finished up going over all the details, highlighting a bit. The eagly on the chest done nice with DA green and Snot Green. The skull was inked with brown ink, the bones around it golden with brown ink. The 'camera' lenses were given a dot of red paint, the lens holder painted gold and then washed in Badab Black. Touched up the red a bit to keep it vibrant and done
The lower legs got their detailing painting. Red sword, white skull, wash black, touch up red. The amulet with skull was painted gold, the hood black and the skull kept white. Used brown ink to get some depth into the amluet and black wash on the hooded skull to darken the eye socket and give it a bit of shade. Touched up the skull with white a bit after that.

The lightning claws and shoulder pads turned out like this.

The claws were painted Space wolf grey, then a layer of Vallejo Sky Blue (love this colour for power weapons, very vibrant) and then highlighted white along the edges. Some parts and studds and trim were painted gold, washed in Gryphonne Sepia. Cables painted black. They still need some work but meh, cables are annoying.

The left shoulder pad got the Crux carefully painted in Fortress grey, washed in black, touched up in Fortress Grey and then highlighted in white. The trim got painted gold, dots of black wash around the studs, and then washed with diluted brown ink making sure the studs still stood out nicely in gold over the darker brown ink. The edge got a very carefull line of brown ink to create more depth and sharpness. The edges should prob be highlighted in gold again I guess, but it looks very nice atm so not sure.

The left shoulder pad rim got treated teh same way. During the scrubbing of the bad white spray paint the top of the sword in the emblem broke of I suppose because it was gone afterwards. I used the tip of curved horn from the Terminator Lord sprue somewhere to replace it. Oh the irony :) The wings got a diluted coat of DA green, wash black, touched up and highlighted with Snot Green. The sword got washed at the same time with black after being painted red, and then touched up to make it all look tidy and straight.

The cloak and loincloth:

I was going to keep it white at first, but then thought that black might suit Belial better to contrast his white armor. The pelts on top were (once again) washed black, then each 'fur bubble' was giving some Fortress grey and some then Skull White.
The cloak itself was painted black except for the trim. The trim was painted Fortress Grey then washed in black. White stripe were painted on the top fo the folds and then blended (or at least attempted to blend) out to both sides. It's a bit funny how it ended up looking like NMM silver. The top of the black folds got a stripe of Codex Grey+Glaze.

The Loincloth Medaillon got painted gold, washed in brown ink. The skull was thinly washed black. The cloth itself was treated as a small version of the cloak.

The base:

I decided to use the base that came with Chaos Lord. I mutilated the point of the star a bit to make it a more broken Chaos symbol. Sprayed it black, painted streakily with Bestial Brown, drybrushed with blood red a bit, washed in black, kinda washed in Vallejo Glaze+Blood red to keep the redness more in. Highlighted/drybrushed the edges with Fortress grey. GlueD on some sand since my other bases are all desert based, and covered that in seriously diluted brown ink. I will prob add a Choas Terminator helmet somewhere on the ground.

And that's all for now folks!

Primed and ready (and washed)

I love GW washes. They make Deathwing armour so insanely easy. Spray paint white (not so easy), smother in Grypphone Sepia wash, touch up with THIN coats of white a few times and voilĂ . For Belial I will go for a bit more highlighting and all that but so far the result with the above recipe is this:

Belial Loincloth

Well the loincloth had a chaos symbol, so that got filed of. In place an amulet from a terminator sprue. Some holes might still need to be filled to make it look less tattered.

Belial Lightning Claws

Next up, the lightning claws. I like these more then the loyalist ones, part of the reason I went with this model. Fixing these was easy. Clip a few redundant spikes and all done!

The Plan!

The sprue with pretty circles and numbers:

The plan:
1. The cloak. Green stuff it so it isn't as tattered. Otherwise fine as is.
2+3 Lightning Claws. Remove some spikey bits.
4. Tabard/Cloth. Icky chaos symbols! File it off and replace with a more heroic loyal bit.
5. Shoulderpad. This needs to become a Crux Terminatus. I could green stuff it (Rhather not, sculpting skills are crappy).
6. Shoulderpad. Needs a DA symbol. Decals, green stuff or something else.
7 Back Torso. Yeah there is no 7, I forgot to circle it. Can be used as is.

The legs, front torso, head and assorted bits will come from loyalist terminators/my bits box.

Belial, the start

I had been looking around for some model to convert to Belial, when I ran across The Sainted Swords and specifically this model.

Now this started out as a Chaos Terminator Lord like this :

From this sprue:

This looked like a good start, so off I went to purchase one of these.
